Real or Artificial Flowers?

Let me start by confessing that usually I really don’t like fake flowers. In fact, I never would’ve thought that we would have any in our wedding but there are a few reasons why we’ve decided to have both real and artificial flowers at our wedding.
First of all, our wedding is on an island so I want to decorate the boat that’s taking our guests to the island and back. As the boat runs from morning till night and most likely in a windy weather, I don’t think real flowers would look good for long. So we’ve decided to decorate the boat with artificial flowers.
We also have another big decorative detail (which I’ll tell you more about later) that will take a lot of work and is in heavy use so we’ve decided to use artificial flowers on that too.
Since the ceremony is at the wedding venue we’ll also have a wedding arch there. We haven’t decided yet if we’ll decorate it with real flowers or not. I think that’s something we need to discuss with our florist at our meeting later in March.
We’ll have real flowers on the tables, bouquets’ and boutonnières’.
The risk with ordering artificial flowers online is that you never know what you’ll get. On the other hand, with real flowers you won’t see what you’re getting until your wedding day. At least with artificial ones, you can get them in advance and you’ll have time to return them or, for example, paint them with furniture paint 😀 Artificial flowers can also be sold or donated after the event.
So, as cynical as I used to be about artificial flowers, I’m ready to admit that they do serve a purpose, after all. 🙂
